Getting started with web design

When using programs such as Quark Xpress or Indesign you have the ability to use a function called spreads. It is important to remember when you use this function that you should not use facing pages.

Instead, you should simply place your pages side by side. If you are supplying us with your native files it allows us to manipulate your page order far more easily.

Illustrated to the right is what a common multi page layout would look like in Quark Xpress.

Another thing that you need to be careful of when producing files like this is making sure that your images from your right and left pages do not overlap (illustrated by red line). What could happen when you do this is parts of the images appear on the wrong pages due to bleed issues that occur when the file is imposed.

If you were working on page 3 for example, you will only bleed your images off the top, bottom and right hand edge by 3mm and your left hand edge would finish at the zero point.
